Classics challenge or where I give in to (more) blogging peer pressure

Since starting this blog I have avoided challenges. I'm bad at doing stuff when I'm supposed to do it. I ever wrote a blog post titled Why I avoid challenges. I'm going to get over this or else fail spectacularly and learn my lesson but either way I'm going to be joining Sarah's Back to the Classics challenge. I have a few reasons for joining:

A lot of book bloggers I liked have decided to play along and I wanted to play too. (Hey you guys! Wait up!)
The challenge runs for the whole year. I can finish 9 books in a year.
My last 2 reading months have been pathetic and I need to fix this. And apparently me telling myself  "do this better" isn't cutting it.

I haven't picked the books out yet but here are the categories. If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know! Also you should join in the challenge. PEER PRESSURE

Any 19th Century Classic
Any 20th Century Classic
Reread a classic of your choice
A Classic Play
Classic Mystery/Horror/Crime Fiction
Classic Romance
A Classic translated from its original language to your native language
Classic Award Winner
Classic set in a country you (realistically speaking) will not visit during your lifetime

I really hope I don't get to December of next year and realize I've hardly done any reading. Fingers crossed!

*Disclaimer: When it comes to reading challenges

Haha reading challenge peer pressure is ok. I mean, I don't think this is going to end in an after school special. Plus this challenge seems doable and so much fun.
Now this sounds like a challenge I can get behind!

Yay you should join!
I really like that peer pressure has become the theme for this challenge.

Back to the Classics/Peer Pressure challenge. It's the way to get stuff that's good for you done.
C'mon, pick your books, you know you're gonna have fun reading 'em! I'm doing the challenge to force myself to read and finish Moby Dick and Brothers Karamazov. I know I'll be glad when I have, but I'm looking at them with a jaundiced eye right now ;-) Cheers! Chris

I am already impressed that you plan on taking on Moby Dick. The sheer length of that one is nuts. I think (hope) in the end I'll be happy with my choice to join in this challenge.
Either 'Tenant of Wildfell Hall' or 'Agnes Grey' would be marvelous choices for your 19th Century read, I reckon :)

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check these out
What? Who's this random Anne Bronte proponent? Also, Agnes Grey is WAY better than Tenant.

...way.

I'm totally a sucker for peer pressure. Especially when it involves books. I just signed up.

@Chris: Wow...Moby Dick and The Brothers Karamazov....I'm impressed too!

Hooray for blogging peer pressure :) Glad you're joining in as well
Yay, you're joining!! I'm reading Moby-Dick right now; it's really not that bad. :P

All of the nautical stuff scares me away form Moby Dick so serious kudos for reading it! I'm incredibly impressed
I signed up for this one because I know it's good for me. I think I overchallenged last year and promised myself I wouldn't do that again, but peer pressure is another great reason for doing this particular challenge.

I'm afraid of overchallenging myself but I'm hoping the fact that the challenge runs for a full year will make this more reasonable. Good luck!
Oooh... I do like a challenge! Nine books doesn't sound like a lot, but I doubt if I've read 9 classics this year (actually that's a lie, cause George Orwell is all classicy, but actually so easy to read). But this sounds fun, and I may have to sign up. That's another one downed by peer pressure...

I'm sure you'll do fine with this challenge, the way you plowed through all of those Orwell books! And hooray for peer pressure adding another to the list!
A Classic translated from its original language to your native language:

Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita!

It's seriously awesome. Woland is your kind of character. You can borrow my copy!

Woo! I was having all sorts of trouble coming up with this one too so done and done! Also you should play along as well! I know you don't have a blog but still! Peer Pressure!!
Alright, but I'm starting now so that I can be done with M&M when you need it. I guess I'll try finish by 11/9/12.

Lemme try to put together the rest of a list.
Woo! Peer pressure moves beyond the blogging sphere :)
Red, You have taking the peer pressure to a whole new level, and I am now considering you an enabler. I just saw that Paul joined at your suggestion, and will guest blog his reviews on your site! That is awesome!

I decided not to let the fact that he doesn't have a blog stop him from playing along! Plus I realized I was going to borrow a bunch of books for the challenge from him, I figured he may as well jump in as well!
